Fun Music Times

I don't know what I love more, Andrea Bocelli or Elmo. Mmmmmmmm. Warning though; the "orchestra" leaves a little something to be desired.

For interests sake, this is the group I played with at the Beatles Concert last night; it was pretty sweet; tonnes of fun. I sense a future of Pops Concerts coming up soon :-/

In other exicting news, I finally got a phone that doesn't hang up when you call me :)

Monday I'm going to the Music Industry Arts Conference to help represent the Faculty of Music; should be fun times! I'm excited to make connections and not sit at my desk programming; YES!

The web-site is coming along. With any luck, it'll be ready to go for Sept. 1.

Web-site fun times

I am still at work, although I am now done. It is 6:30pm. Today I could have gone home at 4:10, but I stayed to finish up some e-mails... eeeks. Note to self: check clock more & take notice when stomach growls.

The web-site is coming along but we seem to have hit a few road-bumps by way of gaining access to the server. There are many problems here:

• The physical servers are being moved to the new building so they're down
• No one (that's not on holidays) seems to know where exactly on the physical servers our site actually exists
• I'm not on a "cluster"; to be on a cluster I have to complete a form, get it signed, have it processed (could take upwards of a week plus b/c ITS is moving), and then have someone come to visit (on a Tues or Thurs only) and add it to my computer... we cannot upload web-pages until I'm on the cluster and Sept 1 is really not that many weeks/Tues/Thursdays away from now...

Fun times eh? I'm still quite confident it will all work out. Our ITS & Chief Designer people are really great so therefore it will all work out right?

Ok, well I think it is time for me to stop thinking about this. Ciao for now

Lucky Week News

Work is going quite well; I really enjoy having something to do and I think my co-workers are finding it extremely helpful to have me around. The new music web-site I'm designing (launching Sept 1), is going to be a significant improvement I think. Planning is also underway for a large fancy dinner I'm helping organize. The other day I had to go around to the different printing companies on campus and get quotes for 3500 wedding-style invitations. The looks on the people's faces when I handed in my "order form" for 3500 wedding invitations was quite awesome.

Speaking of awesome, the other day (Tues?) when I was walking home from work, I was quite alarmed to see a firetruck and a Gas Services truck outside my apartment building; turns out someone had driven into the metres, dislodging the main lines allowing for gas to pour out. To add to the sketchiness, no one reported it for about four hours (or so the gas people were estimating). WHO RUPTURES A GAS LINE AND DOESN'T REPORT IT FOR FOUR HOURS! It was fixed by the next morning when I went to take a shower so I wasn't inconvenienced by it too much, but sheesh, this could have been a lot worse.

I'm preparing for an SCO concert this Friday that is all Beatles music. It is going to be so awesome! I love Beatles music so much. Unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion that I don't love it enough because I definitely need to sign some CDs out of the library to hear what some of these songs sound like :-/

Okie dokes, well I'm going to get back to setting things up in my office; I've decided that I'm actually going to try and make it look like someone actually works here, rather than having a desk with nothing on it...

So yah, I have nothing...

I have finished the massive scheduling fun! w00t w00t! Now those pesky little faculty members wanting to book masterclasses can do so. YAY!

I'm not sure I really have done anything else worth mentioning in the last 24 hours... So much for a post!

Today's work task has been not so exciting -- entering data into a really poorly designed program (thanks Sun Microsystems!). Seriously, if they spent a bit more time developing this calendar application, this task would take soooooooooooooo much less time. The greatest part is that every time you enter an appointment, it opens with a random date (complete with random times) for you to work with. This means a lot of extra clicking even if, hey, by George you're still entering data for 2008 not 2013! I've done so much clicking today that my right arm is kind of sore. Eeeks.

I love having a dish washer. I have only used it twice now, but it certainly is handy when you can't even think about running hot water because your apartment is so warm. Yay for Maytag :)

My next upcoming concert is all Beatles music, complete with "big bassoon solos". It should be much fun. Any concert where the audience is allowed to drink beer is always fun, to some degree anyways. :)

I am hungry. I brought my lunch today instead of going home (it was supposed to rain). Unfortunately I didn't pack enough to make it through and now my tummy is making noises. It is definitely somewhat distracting.

1699 bottles of bear on the wall...

I have come to the conclusion that I like reading blogs a whole lot more than writing them. Perhaps I will be more inspired once I get the internet hooked up at home and can upload pictures and such things.

Today I finished putting approximately 1700 pieces of paper in chronological order. Even though this may not sound like an interesting job, I was quite entertained by it and was glad to be doing something. Over the next few days I hope to be revising our program templates and, again, familiarizing myself with DreamWeaver. Goodtimes.

I am pretty sure I am going to part ways with Fido, my current phone provider. I have discovered that I can get the exact same services (minus one feature) from Solo for just over $20 less a month. I highly suggest you check out the Solo service plans, particularly if you're looking to save a few bucks.

Well, I'm going to continue to peruse different program options on the web. Ttyl!

First Post from the New Desk

Well here I am, sitting at my new desk(s) (I currently have two... one with a computer, one for "stuff") in my lovely air conditioned office. It looks like the next few weeks won't be terribly busy but I will be using this time to familiarize myself with Dreamweaver, a web-site writing system. I'm a little nervous about this because I really don't remember much at all about web-page design classes in 10th grade... I'm also to look into writing a program for ticket sales... I've also not written any programs since the 10th grade... Thankfully this is stuff I can delegate to other people within the university but I still think I really ought to understand what's going on, even on the most basic level.

Last night there was some more excitement at my twin apartment building. Some of you commented on the story of two guys doing chin-ups from the threshold (right word?) of the main entrance way a few days ago. Anyhoo, yesterday around 2:30pm I awoke to a speeding car and slamming door in the parking lot. I was already kind of awake thanks to eating bad salsa for dinner (whoever says mixing different brands is OK, is not OK...) so I got up to see what all the commotion was about. Turns out there were two police cars, and shortly after, an ambulance, parking to go into my twin apartment building. I stayed up for 45min trying to figure out what was going on, but to no avail. Having to get up in just a few hours for work, I went back to sleep. Perhaps there will be an exciting story on the news tonight that I can share tomorrow.

Well I'm off to see what the internet can teach me about Dreamweaver and program-writing...
