Today is Tuesday
Room bookings. Scheduling classes, rehearsals, etc. for the FOM is a logistical nightmare: not enough suitable spaces for the demand. I've tried my best to improve the system whilst I was thrown the job as the normal person was away but, alas, there is only so much a gal can do and only so many times a person can say "How could you be so STUPID to think that you're going to be able to find a room to rehearse today, being a Monday, evening. Don't you know there are 1001 masterclasses at this time and every single room is taken" inside your head to an unsuspecting faculty member. Arg. Thankfully though, the person I had taken this job over for is now back full time more-or-less, so I should never have to think this again. Here's hoping. :S
Faculty members. Who knew there was sooooo much in-fighting? Actually there is extremely little of it to be honest so when it does happen (like yesterday when someone informed me that they were not to be seated with someone else), it catches me really off guard and I come off as looking like a shocked youngin'. Not exactly the look I'm going for these days.
Speaking of being caught off guard, today I caught myself off guard as I agreed to go out on yet another date with someone time has told me is less than ideal. It's one of those tricky situations where part of you tells yourself that you should know better but another part says give the guy a chance; people change (see previous post) vs people do not change. Seems to be the question of the week.
The big weekend is coming up. For those of you whom I do not talk to regularly, I've become the main organizer for our faculty's 40th anniversary. This involves coordinating about 1000 people visiting and participating in activities this Friday and Saturday. I feel surprisingly prepared but am quite sure this is just the calm before the storm. Weeks and weeks of preparation are finally coming together, under budget at that, for a weekend that will hopefully start paving the way to a career that either starts here at the faculty or starts because of a connection made to the oodles of successful grads coming to visit. Here's for hoping I haven't forgot anything big.
Well I think I'm going to hit the sack and enjoy the after effect of having written some of my thoughts out here.

Well Why Not...
Has it ever occurred to you that life is full of making the same mistakes over again just in slightly different variations? I think of my history with work, relationships, practicing and it all seems to be the same old same old when I find myself in that something-needs-to-change spot. As my friend would say (sarcastically of course), you fail at life. BAH. Sometimes I desire change so badly but I, like everyone, am reluctant to change.
Perhaps the notion that people never change is true: the selfish will always be selfish; the grumpy will always be grumpy; and the stupid will always be stupid. It seems quite counterproductive then that we are all trying to change ourselves then: changing how we eat, changing how we speak, changing what we do. If we aren't able to ever make drastic changes why bother working so hard at the small ones? I find this particularly interesting as I'm someone who believes I can actually change people around me (I know... danger). Whether it's brightening someone's day by making them smile or spending months encouraging them to be more self-confident, the concept of change is closely connected to my philosophy of living and yet I feel so incapable of producing the same sort of change in myself when I really need it. I'm ok at motivating myself out of a crappy mood most of the time, but when I really need to do it for myself, I fail. However, when the situation is changed to someone else being in a crummy mood and really needing out of it, I can usually succeed into improving the situation. Arg.
I'm sure this makes no sense to anyone else but me but it sure feels good to take out my frustrations on a keyboard instead of that tasty bag of Lays sitting across the room. I am off to load my cares onto my pillow. Oh how this viscious cycle sucks.

- I like my office. I like that it is air conditioned, particularly on warm days like today. I like that it has natural light -- a real rarity as far as my past work experiences go. I like the people I work with and they seem to like me -- does this ever happen? I like that I feel useful and that I'm making money. I like that I'm not playing bassoon very much right now. I like that I don't feel guilty for not practicing.
- I liked this article about horns & horn players. I generally don't like reading, but I enjoy writing that has a good sense of wit about it. The Angry Organist's posts keep me quite entertained for this reason.
- I actually like the web-site I helped build / am the current co-webmaster of. I find it so surprising that it was quite simple. In a sense I'm glad the standards were so low (the last site was t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e) so that literally any small thing I did to improve it was met with huge accolades.
- I like that there are people in town again. I am confused it as well though in that I haven't talked to some of these people in nearly five months. Sometimes I would try and get in touch with people over the summer and they would never get back. Sometimes the roles were reversed and I just let e-mails sit un-replied in my inbox. What to do, what to do. September is such an awkward time. It's a good time to start things new whether that's rekindling an old friendship or moving on from one that's been non-existant for five months and was never the greatest of things in the first place. I over think things I know. It's what I do best. It's why they pay me.
I don't know what to do tonight. It's my last night with the place to myself but I don't really feel like hanging out by myself. Thus the school-year struggle begins; I have muchos time on my hands whilst everyone else is gearing up hard core for auditions, teaching (gasp! I am getting ollllllllld), course selections, visiting everyone else who just move back, etc. Hmmmmm. Something more to think about.

Fun Music Times
I don't know what I love more, Andrea Bocelli or Elmo. Mmmmmmmm. Warning though; the "orchestra" leaves a little something to be desired.
For interests sake, this is the group I played with at the Beatles Concert last night; it was pretty sweet; tonnes of fun. I sense a future of Pops Concerts coming up soon :-/
In other exicting news, I finally got a phone that doesn't hang up when you call me :)
Monday I'm going to the Music Industry Arts Conference to help represent the Faculty of Music; should be fun times! I'm excited to make connections and not sit at my desk programming; YES!
The web-site is coming along. With any luck, it'll be ready to go for Sept. 1.
Ciao for now; more Big Brothery goodness coming my way.
